What Iris Clinical is
Iris Clinical is an AI-powered clinical workspace for registered UK optometrists and pre-registration students. It provides three core features: AI Clinical Chat, Referral Letter Generator, and a Clinical Image Bank. It is designed for use by registered healthcare professionals only.
What Iris Clinical is not
- • Not a substitute for professional clinical judgement.
- • Every AI response is a reference resource only.
- • Clinical decisions must be made by a registered optometrist using their professional judgement.
- • Iris Clinical does not hold or process patient-identifiable information. Do not enter patient names, dates of birth, NHS numbers, or other identifiers.
Clinical responsibility
Developed and maintained by a GOC-registered practising UK optometrist. The knowledge base is reviewed against the following authoritative UK sources:

Clinical limitations

- •Information may not reflect the most recent guidance.
- •Iris Clinical cannot examine the patient.
- •Not validated as a diagnostic tool.
Every response includes the disclaimer: "AI-generated response. Clinical judgement remains the responsibility of the optometrist. Not a substitute for current UK guidelines or specialist advice."
Regulatory status
Iris Clinical is under assessment for classification under the UK Medical Devices Regulations 2002. Pre-submission consultation with the MHRA has been initiated. We operate to standards appropriate for clinical decision support software.
Data protection
ICO registered (C1962125). UK GDPR compliant. No patient-identifiable data is processed. Full details in our Privacy Notice.
Reporting a concern
Use the form at irisclinical.co.uk/report-concern or email safety@irisclinical.co.uk. All reports are reviewed within 48 hours and logged.
